A History of World War II Podcast

< epicHistory >

So back in winter when I was working as a custodian on campus early in the morning, I needed something to entertain me while pushing a wheeled trash can through the empty halls of the fletcher building. I listened to music. Then I got bored. I tried audio books, and I liked them, but I only wanted to listen to those I could get for free (I spent many hours listening to Jane Austin). I wanted something more entertaining. Something that would make the hours seem like minutes. Then I found A History of World War II Podcast by Ray Harris Jr.

I was instantly immersed in the lives and events that surrounded World War II, beginning from the end of World War I up to the war itself. I got to hear the life stories of Hitler and Mussolini, and the complex political struggles their nations experienced in the 20's and 30's. I learned about the rise of Imperial Japan, and detailed accounts of the Chinese Nationalist and Communist conflicts. The cunning games that Hitler played in order to take over several nations before resorting to military action, and his success with Blitzkrieg is covered in absolute detail. Ray is great to listen too; he's neither dull nor boring, and keeps the podcast interesting and entertaining.

To date he has podcast almost 18 hours worth of material, and the majority of the war is still to be covered. If you are looking for good, detailed, and interesting history about World War ll, check out A History of World War II Podcast on iTunes and visit AHistroyofWorldWarIIPodcast.net

Life Gone Exercise

< lifeStory >

Fall semester 2010 saw me doing anything but engaging in exercise. It always has seemed to be an afterthought that got ignored, or a resolution that was forgotten a week after it was made. I never had any compelling reason to exercise, and the stand-alone justifications of greater health and a more attractive physique were simply not sufficiently motivating. Now, things seemed to have flipped 180 degrees in no time at all.

You see I got this job. I'm now a SysAdmin in the athletics building (RB) at BYU. Great, right? But what does that have to do with exercise? Its computers I'm supposed to be working with, and I am. Though, at the same time I'm also involved in various projects in the department of health and human performance. Anything from an audio/video setup in the cycling room, to giving input on web design for the fitness and student wellness page. From the posters we print to the projects involved, everything seems to be related to exercise. I'm reminded of that 40 hours a week.

Not only that, in this same building I've decided to visit the pool three times a week. I thought it would be cool, and now I think its awesome and don't want to stop. When I'm not swimming, I'm running, and on Saturdays I go for a bike ride. Then I thought hmm, swimming, running, and biking, there ought to be a sport for that. Oh wait, there is! So I signed up for a triathlon set for September 3rd.

And so it is that my life has begun to revolve around health and exercise.
